The Daily Eris: The Enlightened Moment

“Forget the wanking for just one moment if you can and remember that the sigil is the important part of the magic being performed here.”

Grant Morrison, “POP MAGIC!”

On this day Dario Argento was born & Mac Miller died. Welcome to the Daily Eris, everyone!

I don’t have a particular structured post planned, so this will be more of a “lightning round”…

I’ve been studying Zen Buddhism recently, and quickly came to the conclusion that the best thing I could do to promote world peace and end human suffering is just shut the fuck up.

I realize there is a whole rich mythological/philosophical/theological aspect to “The Lighthouse” just waiting to be analyzed, but I’m still stuck on the lobster.

Ego is simply the mammalian recognition of one’s status in the pack.”

Robert Anton Wilson, “Prometheus Rising”

One thing you need to do RIGHT NOW is accept the possibility that your fave is problematic. Don’t wait until you discover this on Twitter in an unguarded moment between slurping on your coffee and adjusting the fabric caught in the crack of your ass—be proactive!

Contemplate this: actor James Woods reached #1 on Twitter Trends yesterday by a) encouraging his fellow Conservatives to block any accounts with different points of view & b) because the peeps with different points of view then tweeted about Woods to make fun of him.

What was really achieved? Much wanking on both sides.

Of course…Woods is Owlman. Maybe this was all merely part of one of his nihilistic worlds-breaking schemes.

The 2004 comedy Dodgeball is obviously a Christian allegory. Pete LaFleur (note the very Rosicrucian-sounding last name) is Jesus. The guys at his gym are therefore the disciples. The part where White Goodman tempts Pete is an allusion to Luke 4: 1-13. To seal the deal, Cotton McKnight refers to the climatic match between LaFleur & White’s teams as “a David and Goliath story truer than the Bible itself.”

Now ask me how Talladega Nights is a Christian allegory.

For I am I: Ergo, the truth of myself; my own sphinx, conflict, chaos, vortex asymmetric to all rhythms, oblique to all paths. I am the prism between black and white: mine own unison in reality.

Austin Osman Spare

As I told you before: the very best thing you could do is just create for yourself a happy little world (a sub-world, if you will) in which you feel comfortable. Because the further you get out there in society, the more people are gonna try to hard-sell you. Everywhere you turn, in fact, you face the Hard-Sell; most especially in online discourse, as it is quickly becoming the only discourse available to us guppies.

Which is all to say: we seem to be collectively pushed into living within in a virtual existence, so you might as well at least build your own.

One day the student came up to the Master and said, “Master! Master! I have been studying and fasting every day for 3 weeks just like you instructed! Now will you tell me the secret of Enlightenment?” And the Master put his hands over his own ears and started screaming “EEEE! EEEE! EEEE!” over and over again until the student ran away.
