The Fantabulous Nooscope: The Most Important Invention In The Last 20 Years

Can I talk to you about the Nooscope, people?

I’m dyin’ to talk about the Nooscope.

The fabled Nooscope, supposedly created by the mysterious Anton Vaino for Vladimir Putin in the 2010s. The Nooscope, which could allegedly “detect and register changes in the biosphere and in human activity”:

“Mr Vaino argues that the economy and society in general have become too complex to manage by traditional means. Governments need to seek new ways of regulating and controlling them.

The article describes a new device called a ‘nooscope’ which, it says, can tap into global consciousness and ‘detect and register changes in the biosphere and in human activity’.

The ‘nooscope’ bewildered many in Russia this week. Does the device really exist, they asked. What does it actually do? Is Mr Vaino really serious?

BBC Russian tracked down Viktor Sarayev, an award- winning economist and businessman who has co- authored a number of articles with Mr Vaino.

He described the nooscope as ‘a device that scans transactions between people, things and money’, and claimed it was an invention of parallel significance to the telescope and the microscope.

But he was less forthcoming about whether it actually existed, or was still under development.”

I submit to you, dear reader, that the Nooscope was/is actually a blending of social media, memes, and, most importantly, deep-dive data analytics.

And that it has already been used, and considered “effective.”

And that, most likely, somewhere within this soup of factors some uncanny metaphysical switch or two was flipped in the process.

Now, I don’t put all the blame on the Russians for the Nooscope, as this sort of subliminal/propaganda/mind-fucking has been going around in the United States for decades. We know all the usual suspects, we’ve been through all this ad infinitum. This isn’t the time or place to list it all now.

And so of course you have the trope of the experiment/weapon/test subject taking on a sentience of its own and, essentially “going off the reservation.”

You see this in the character of Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, essentially a stand-in for the atomic bomb.

The U.S. sends him into battlefield as a weapon, etc…

…but he has other plans.

His hyper-intelligence has rendered the rest of humanity as “ants” in his estimation.

You can then move on to figures like Robocop…

The Winter Soldier…

And Jason Bourne.

A very common trope.

What if the Nooscope has set off something that is bigger than itself?

Something that is even, to a degree, independent?

And what if this “thing” interfaces with AI proper? And what if this “thing” interfaces with assorted humans via neural link (technology we have, by the way).

And what if this “thing” interfaces with something that’s beyond our immediate comprehension?

We just don’t know.

And Elon Musk lights up a blunt and we all laugh and put the image on a T-shirt…but in the end, we really don’t know what the fuck is really going on.
